Moto X Step-Up Steals the Show at X Games LA

The motocross step-up event is often unexciting and drawn-out, leaving some to wonder why it’s still a part of X Games. But this year’s competition flipped the script, becoming one of the more exciting events as Ronnie Renner and Matt Buyton battled back and forth, eventually shattering the previous record height by 10 feet.

As exciting as Renner’s record-breaking performance was, Moto X Best Trick failed to live up to the hype. There were some impressive tricks throw down like Jackson Strong’s shirtless body varial seat grab. But the competition was overshadowed by a strange anti-climax when Kyle Loza was ready to attempt his bike flip for the second time and then decided against it at the last moment. It’s better for a competitor not to attempt such a dangerous stunt if he doesn’t feel right. Yet the Staples Center announcers compounded the situation by urging him to take his run, which ultimately lead to a shower of boos from the crowd. A bizarre ending to an exciting night.
