Nyjah Huston earned his first Skate Street Dew Cup by dominating the Dew Tour Toyota City Championships in San Francisco with progressive tricks and style. The contest was held in City Civic Plaza on a course that replicated iconic Bay area skate spots, and Huston made full use of the “Hubba Hideout” replica and landed a kickflip back tailslide and hardflip 5-0, which boosted his score significantly above the rest of the field.
California natives Torey Pudwill and Paul Rodriguez took second and third respectively.
“I’m really stoked on the whole contest,” said Huston, following his win. “It’s the first Dew Tour I’ve ever won in my whole life, so I’m super stoked to be able to come out. The course was sick too. I think the whole idea of replicating spots in San Francisco, a city with so much skateboarding history, was a great idea.”
Harrison Street served as the venue for the progressive Streetstyle skate event. The unique discipline shut down three city blocks and turned them into the perfect downhill set-up of makeshift ramps and rails. Ryan Sheckler’s first run gave him the top score of the day in that event and included a stylish backside lipslide down the rail and a frontside 360 indy up the step-up. Milton Martinez and David Gravette rounded out the podium with their technical tricks and board control.
“It was a really unique contest, and I had a lot of fun. I think everyone who skated in it had a blast. It’s completely new, it’s never been done before, and I think it worked out great. I hope they do this event again. This is the only kind of contest I want to skate, it was so fun,” Ryan Sheckler said following the event.
