Riding the momentum from his recent victory at X Games Los Angeles, Paul Rodriguez found a way to take home $150,000 and his first Street League victory at the third stop in Glendale, Arizona.
P-Rod put a halt to Nyjah Huston’s 2012 two event win-streak and total domination of the tour. It was a throwback to three years ago, when Rodriguez, Chris Cole, and Ryan Sheckler frequented the top spots in every contest.
Building on his confidence of late, Rodriguez used the proper formula for success–consistency. He went for safe tricks when called for. He went huge ones when necessary. And most importantly, he landed his tricks when he needed to most, narrowly beating Cole.
Rodriguez was elated at his first Street League victory, commenting, “I’ve been dreaming about this one since the league started. I was fortunate enough this time around to make my mark in the league. You can’t stop thinking that you have what it takes to be up there with these guys.”
The tour heads to Newark, New Jersey on August 26 for the Street League Championship, where the largest purse in skateboarding history will be shelled out.
