Our brothers over at Skateboarder Magazine are very pleased to unveil their latest outside-the-box skate adventure through Vietnam. A fearless pack of skateboarding’s elite were assembled by lensman Jon Mehrig and Pat Wallner with the intent of touring the length of the once war-torn country by motorcycle. And it sounds all kinds of dangerous.
Here is how they describe the journey:
We probably should have intervened when our Senior Photographer Jonathan Mehring got together with the globetrotting filmer Patrik Wallner to concoct some harebrained excursion to another third world country for a skateboarding trip, especially when they started throwing motorbikes into the mix. But as they say, the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward, which is probably why the likes of Jerry Hsu, Keegan Sauder, Joey Pepper, Javier Mendizibal and Michael “Michi” Mackrodt were game to accompany them on this journey down nearly the entire length of Vietnam despite some of their limited past experience with riding motorbikes.
So follow along with the crew in this four part video series as they sojourn on their harrowing trek south through almost the entirety of Vietnam in an attempt to dodge buses, chickens, pedestrians, find food and shelter and skate spots all while trying to make it to their final destination alive and well.
Below is the first in a four part series to be released over the next three weeks. Click here for photos taken by the riders along the road.
