The world’s best bowl skaters are ready to take over Australia’s iconic bowl at Bondi Beach Saturday, February 25th for the 7th Annual Vans Bowl-A-Rama skate contest.
The contest marks the unofficial start to the skateboarding bowl season and is far and away the biggest week for skateboarding in Australia, featuring a mixture of contests, art shows, video premieres, live music performances, giveaways and the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Vans Half-Cab with Steve Caballero.
Highlights from the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Vans Half-Cab!
This year’s contest has added motivation– $85,000 worth of motivation to be exact. The best in skateboarding will vie for the biggest prize purse in the event’s 7-year history.
Last year’s winner Pedro Barros will defend his title against Bucky Lasek, Rune Glifberg, Curren Caples, Josh Borden, Alex Perelson, Omar Hassan and a lineup of hungry skaters looking to make a name for themselves.
A number of questions surround this year’s event: Will this be another step toward bowl domination for Barros as the young Brazilian looks to continue building on his 2011 success? Is Lasek’s run in competitive skate contests finally nearing an end? Will he along with fellow bowl legends Gliffberg and Hassan start thinking about the legends division?
Catch the live webcast on Friday, February 24th (if you’re in North America) from 3:00pm to 12:00am (Pacific Standard Time).
