Nestled deep in the Austrian Alps, atop Silvretta Montafon, sits the massive snowboard park created specifically for the Nike Chosen Sessions. On April 2, Nike pros, 12 ams from the Chosen Series and the top 3 Chosen video crews suited up and sessioned the setup on the first day of the weeklong event.
After only a few laps, many were blown away by the size of the course and how well it was crafted. Following an impressive run through the jump section, Nike Pro, Jan Scherrer exclaimed, “This is pretty much the most amazing course I’ve ever ridden!”
The setup is comprised of several sections including two jump lines, jib sections, two pipes/snake runs, two skate-bowls, and an enormous ‘money booter,’ an 80 meter jump over a Nike Swoosh made out of snow.
Spencer O’Brien, reigning World Slopestyle Champ and Nike Pro commented how impressed she was and said, “The setup at the Chosen Sessions is crazy. I wasn’t expecting there to be this many features or for it to be this well-built. I’m really looking forward to riding it. There’s a great crew of people here, so it’s going to be a fun week in Austria.”
Throughout the week, various competitions will take place in Silvretta’s park. The 12 ams from the Chosen Series will compete in Best Line, Bowl Session, and Biggest Air Comps where they will be judged based on their follow-cam edit.
From there, it’s up to Nike Pros and you to decide ‘who rode it best’ by voting for your favorites at NikeChosenSessions.com.
The video crews are on a different program, and have all week to create an edit that best exemplifies their Austrian shred adventure. While the European crews, RocksonSB and Smallzinema only had to travel a short distance, This Must Be The Place came from America, so they had to make over a 15-hour trek just to reach Montafon. Upon his arrival in Austria, Connor Brown, the crew’s filmer, commented, “We had to fly overseas to get here, so this trip is especially nuts for us. We can’t wait to see what we can do in our edit.”
At the end of the week, Nike Pros have the task of determining which am and which video crew best deserves to Live Like a Nike Pro. Spencer O’Brien is excited to judge and stated, “I think seeing the contest guys and what the video crews came up with throughout the week will be a really cool way to end everything.”
The first day of the Nike Chosen Sessions was blessed with bluebird skies and warm temps, which added to the spring break feel of the event.
