Iglu-Dorf hotel rooms made of snow go for, gulp, $170 to $580

After a day on the ski slopes, you want to cozy up around a fire back at the lodge, but at the Iglu-Dorf hotel in Davos, Switzerland, that’s probably not a good idea. Why? Because you might melt the hotel, which is built out of snow. Rooms are a “cozy” and constant 32 degrees, and range from the jaw-dropping price of $170 to $580 per night. Bloomberg TV has the unusual and intriguing story:

Many skiers and snowboarders take trips throughout Europe and stay at one of the seven Iglu-Dorf hotels built annually for the price of $107,000. As the video says, it takes 10 builders and two artists 2,700 hours to create a hotel that is, uh, very cold.

But very profitable. Incredibly, they rake in $3.2 million annually.

The Iglu-Dorf hotel featured in the video above is built 3,280 feet above Davos, which is the highest city in Europe at 5,120 feet. Davos–you might have heard of it. It’s where this week’s World Economic Forum is being held.

But we kinda doubt Bill Gates is staying there.
