Jamie Anderson wins Winter X gold again, admits to hugging trees

Can anybody unseat Jamie Anderson in the women’s snowboard slopestyle? That was the question going into X Games Aspen, and the answer coming out of the event Saturday is, no.

The South Lake Tahoe snowboarder won her second consecutive Winter X slopestyle gold medal and fourth overall while remaining unbeaten in three starts in slopestyle competitions this season.

Anderson opened with the event’s first complete run, scoring a 93 that included a big cab 720, and it was all she needed. Watch her winning run:

“I just wanted to put down a solid run and do my best,” she told ESPN. “I’m just so thankful to be here. I’m really inspired to learn more new tricks and have better style and enjoy the journey.”

Interestingly, that journey includes an odd way of preparing for her runs. She steps aside into the trees and meditates.

“I hug trees,” she laughed.

Who can argue? It’s working for her.

Sarka Pancochova of Czechoslovakia took silver with 90 points. Spencer O’Brien of Canada took bronze.
