It’s been 124 days since the tragic accident at Park City Mountain Resort left the life of Kevin Pearce in limbo. With a grim prognosis and all odds against him, the future looked bleak.
But after three months in Craig Medical Center in Denver, Colorado a remarkable recovery has taken place. Kevin Pearce has returned to his beloved home in Norwich, Vermont.
Tom Brocaw from NBC’s Nightly News was on the scene for the joyful homecoming last Sunday. Pearce and Brocaw walked around the family’s property and talked about Kevin’s inspirational and miraculous recovery. Kevin paused and said heart-fully, “There’s nothing better that I can think of then being able to come back [home] and be in that shape that I am.”
The news of Pearce’s return to his homestead in the east is of great surprise and joy to many, but perhaps the most remarkable announcement for Pearce is that he plans to snowboard again.
At one point, it was feared Pearce may never walk again- let alone rip down a mountain- but now, four and a half months later, the “Fierce Pearce” claims, “That’s the most exciting part. Yes, I will get back to snowboarding.”
Pearce elaborated on his love for the sport saying, “Snowboarding is such a fun sport and it has brought me so much joy, and I still love it so much that I would never change any of it. “
Pearce also explained that he couldn’t be at this point in recovery without all of the support from his from his loving family, “frends”, and Facebook fans.
“I was getting cards from people just saying how excited they were for me, that I was doing so well, and that was just so special to me, ” Pearce said.
Kevin is on his way up, getting better everyday, staying positive and giving inspiration to everyone to ride for the fun of it, for love of it, and to “Ride for Kevin” everyday.
