Dubbed the Colorado “Season Pass Wars,” competitive pricing among the 1-70 resorts has for many years now created deals for skiers in the Metro Denver area, as well as those throughout the country who benefit from cooperative deals offered at other resorts owned by the rivaling resort conglomerates.
Destination resorts on Colorado’s Western Slope, however, have for the most part been immune. Most are independently owned, and due to their long drive distances from the Front Range population centers, their target markets are often customers travelling by air from Atlanta and Dallas.
All that is changing this year, however. Monarch Mountain near Salida, Colorado recently announced a deal with 27 other resorts around the world offering free lift privileges or discounts to Monarch Pass holders.
Now Silverton Mountain, often dubbed the “anti-resort” for their single lift and expert-only terrain, has joined the fray–at least for a limited time. Silverton, which is also a partner on the Monarch Pass, has announced a $399 season pass, which includes half-price heli drops and limited free days at other Colorado resorts, including Arapahoe Basin and Loveland–right in the heart of the Denver market–as well as Monarch.
While Monarch’s pass is a standing offer, however, Silverton’s goes up $100 at the end of the month, and expires after a certain number are sold. So get on it!
