Snowmobiling with a parachute? One man thinks ‘sport’ could take off

What do you get when you attach a parachute to a 500-pound snowmobile and start speeding down a snowy slope? According to Eric Oddy, you get parasledding. “Never been done till now,” he states in the video description. You also get an odd blend of already dangerous pastimes that collectively become one that looks downright scary. (Middle to low volume might be best for viewing enjoyment.)

Oddy’s experimental flights have occurred in British Columbia. He hasn’t earned many headlines yet, but a reporter for KSL News had this to say about Oddy’s ambitions for what he refers to, in the comments section, as a new sport:

“Eric Oddy introduces us to the new ‘sport,’ but I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to be a new Olympic entry any time soon. I don’t even think the X Games are interested.”

But one never knows. Maybe Oddy, like the Wright Brothers, is onto something and parasledding will someday take off.

But the next big craze? For safety’s sake, let’s hope not!
