the Snurfboard

Between our snow editor Lindsay Fraka and I, there has always been a lot of shit-talking about snow vs surf, who’s gnarlier, who parties harder, who is more retarded, etc.. Well in this clip by Signal Snowboards the two are paired up for a unique little crossover project. Perfect.

The idea is to make a board that you can ride on snow and surf. Test pilots for this concept were Rob Machado for the ocean, and pro snowboarder Curtis Ciszek for the mountain.

Rob surfs the thing like an alaia/fish hybrid, some stylish lines but not exactly ripping. The interesting part was actually the snow test, where after a few runs they discovered that the board rode best with one of the surf fins in to stabilize the tail.

I was really hoping this video would provide me with some ammunition against Lindsay and the rest of the snowbies, but no such luck. Turns out we both have stoney baloney ideas and just a bit too much time on our hands. Call it a tie for now..
