California’s Changing Surfscape

The further we tread toward technological improvement, the further we stray from the natural order of things. This is the basic theme explored in a new short film from gotsurf.ca, entitled, California-Seeking for a New Port. Through interviews with a handful of insightful characters in California’s surf community, director Marc-Andre Laurin chose to examine California as the ideal microcosm of both human and environmental diversity. As Laurin explains, “It’s the perfect confrontation between ecology and economy, between environment and technology.” At the same time, Laurin is concerned that those dichotomies may be out of balance, questioning, “Is that equilibrium still possible? Or profitable?”
