On a beautiful Saturday March, 24 in Western Australia’s Margaret River, with sunny skies, offshore winds, and a declining head-high swell, John John Florence won the WQS Prime Telstra Drug Aware Pro.

John John Florence won the event with a streak of zombie-like performances where he dropped 9-point rides at will, culminating in a closely fought final against fellow islander Olamana Eleogram. While he may not have won the event, the Maui Boy just got the kind of result he needs to put his name back in the spotlight.

After a fruitful amateur career with big brand sponsorship from Quiksilver, things have gone quiet for Ola, but a semi-final result at Sunset Beach in the Vans World Cup in December, and with a final appearance at this prime event, expect plenty more shakas from Ola in the near future.
