New Movie on Sumatra’s Tidal Bore

The Bono, a river-wave deep in the Sumatran jungle, is one of Sumatra’s more bizarre wonders. Journeys to the mysterious and dangerous tidal bore have yielded many spooky stories, including ones about chocolate-colored dream waves. Here is the trailer for Indonesian filmmaker Arya Subyakto’s film on the place, titled “Water from the Moon.” The film stars Chippa Wilson, Benji Weatherly, Dede Suryana, and Tai Graham and will premiere at the Ombak Bali International Film Festival in late August.

For more visual evidence of the Bono, here are two recent clips from the same trip featuring Michael Barber and a guy named Captain Frothalot. Don’t ask.
