New season of “Shark Men” may thin the Malibu surf crowd

Yet another reminder that we’re not the only ones in the lineup at Malibu.

National Geographic has decided to bring back the popular and very interesting series “Expedition Great White,” only now they’re calling it “Shark Men.” Regardless of what you think of the name change this is a great series that will absolutely raise shark awareness, especially if you’re a surfer near Malibu.

After their renowned shooting crews traveled back to Mexico’s Guadalupe Island, the Farallones off of San Francisco, they turned their eyes to sun-drenched coast of Southern California.

In fact, in the third episode “Surfing with Sharks” highlights the abundance of juvenile whites that lurk just beyond the crowded lineups. Whether that’s always been the case, or a more recent development due to recent shark protections doesn’t really matter when your lower on the food chain. Fact is more white sharks are being seen right off the coast.

Hopefully after watching this episode, we’ll learn more about the tendencies of these sharks; such as what they like to eat, how close they get to shore, or whether or not surfers should drive south instead of surfing Malibu.

As someone who enjoys surfing Malibu, maybe this isn’t such a bad thing. Hopefully the episode will scare the majority of dudes away from the lineup.
