Nico Von Rupp opts for Ireland over Hawaii and scores

How often does a surf trip to sunny Hawaii turn into a stealth mission to snowy Ireland? This seems like a question with no plausible answer, yet German-born pro surfer Nico Von Rupp found himself doing just that after a monstrous purple blob of energy popped up in the North Atlantic just as he was headed to the airport for paradise. The truly shocking part is that the size and power of the waves he would find, in addition to the lack of a crowd, made that decision seem logical. Nico even shared the session with Hawaiian local and Pipeline specialist Kohl Christensen, who fled the islands for the very same swell in Ireland, further confirming that Nico made the right call.
