Nike to move entire surf team to Hurley

After news trickled down the grapevine last month that Nike was pulling its sponsorship from the largest surf contest in the country, the widely popular U.S. Open of Surfing, rumors began to swirl and some would say the writing was on the wall. Tuesday, Nike announced that as of Jan. 1 all of the people in Nike’s impressive surf roster will peel off their Nike swooshes and replace them with Hurley logos.

World Tour elite surfers Julian Wilson, Kolohe Andino, Alejo Muniz, and Michel Bourez, will now be on Hurley, with all of their Nike contracts being honored by their new sponsor. World Tour rookies Nat Young, Felipe Toledo, and ladies world champ Carissa Moore will be swapping stickers as well.

Nike will scale back their involvement in surfing to shoes only, and next season Hurley will go from having only three tour surfers to having nine of the 34 men on tour.

The official announcement is expected to come some time Tuesday. Updates to follow.
