It was another day of high scores and close heats as the Quiksilver Pro France marched through the quarterfinals, setting up a dramatic final day to come.

World No. 4 John John Florence weaved his way into the semifinals, along with No. 2 Joel Parkinson and No. 3 Kelly Slater, making the world title picture a bit tighter. The semi-final matchups are nothing short of magical: John John versus a possessed Dane Reynolds in Heat 1, and Kelly taking on Joel in Heat 2.

With No.1 Mick Fanning losing yesterday to Reynolds, his 1,500-point lead over Parkinson will disappear, and Joel should take over the top position. Even if Joel loses in the semis, neither Kelly nor John John would take the lead even if he won the event. First place carries 10,000 points, 2,000 more than second and 3,500 more than third, which is something that is weighing heavily on the minds of at least three of the four semi-finalists. As a wildcard, Reynolds won’t be taking any points from this event, though as we all know, Mr. Reynolds couldn’t care less.

Big swell continues to pour into the Bay of Biscay, with well-overhead peaks detonating on the sand at beachbreak La Graviere, meaning the event should be wrapping up in the morning tomorrow.
