What a day for the three-thumbed Kauian known as “Seabass.” Sebastian Zietz has just won the biggest event of his career, the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore, and by doing so, he solidified his spot as a rookie on the 2013 dream tour.
Unexpectedly solid surf greeted the final day of the event’s waiting period, with just over six hours of heats left to go in the event. Sebastian has been a standout all event, putting up solid scores in both the large- and medium-size swell on offer throughout the waiting period.
Now Sebastian can breathe easy, having solidified his spot on next year’s tour and leading the triple crown rankings going into stop No. 2 at Sunset Beach, which will most likely get under way on Tuesday. If Seabass can do well at Sunset, he could book himself a spot in the Pipeline Masters and possibly take his first Triple Crown title.
