On the west coast of the United States, the only waves you’ll see this time of year are from the southern hemisphere as powerful storms born near Antarctica hurl long-period swells northward. While many wintertime spots go into hibernation, certain waves that don’t get swell-blocked by any of the Channel Islands, like Salt Creek, light up like a warm water playground.
