It’s been quite some time since Cory Lopez was at the forefront of progression in surfing. But back when phones were used for phone calls and a guy named Bill was president, Cory and his pal Chris Ward spent their summers camped out at Lower Trestles and ended up redefining high performance surfing.

Lost’s iconic videos What’s Really Goin On, and the sequel, What’s Really Goin Wrong, invented a whole new genre of jackass surf movies. And the surfing in them– by Lopez and Ward– became the benchmark of progression.

Cory brought the grab-reverse to prominence, which is now a standard maneuver among the new hi-fi generation. Over a decade later, though he might not be inventing tricks anymore, Cory Lopez is still one of the best surfers on the planet. Here’s a little proof, courtesy of Lost.
