Your mission for the summer? – To be Chosen

So by now you may have heard about Nike’s new “Just Do It” campaign and some hype surrounding their Chosen contest, the grassroots film showcase for creative types the globe over, where people like you and your friends can get noticed for being the generally rad surfing humans you are. That said, you probably have a few more questions.

Just what is The Chosen?

Chosen is a platform Nike set up to seek out interesting groups of surfers (that’s you) through the videos you make and upload to the Chosen portal on Facebook. It’s you and your top lieutenants doing whatcha do, in the water and out, showing the surf community how you roll via clean little clips of celluloid. A couple minutes. A DV camera. Final Cut Pro. Some tunes. Make us abuse the rewind button.

Who can be Chosen?

Any crew with a dash of steeze and a dollop of skill. Oh, and a camera.

What’s a dollop?

A small quantity of something.

What’s a crew?

The rules say a crew is 2-4 individuals who surf, hang, and do awesome things together. The Cooly Kids are a crew. The Gudauskas brothers are a crew. The hip hop collective Odd Future is a crew. Crews are everywhere. You’ve got a crew, don’tcha?

Why’s it called Chosen?

Because this summer, one crew will be picked like a rose — “chosen,” if you like — to show the surf world a thing or two about living the life. That means a green light and a trust fund to roll like pros: $10,000 to each crew member, a dream trip with Team Nike, and enough new Swoosh gear that you can donate your current threads to a shelter.
At the end of July, at the galactic surf explosion that is the US Open in Huntington Beach, a winning crew will be picked based on the personality, creativity, and overall epicness depicted in their film uploads. That’s two months from now. Are you filming yet?

Chosen has begun and crews are already getting busy. If your crew deserves to be seen, it’s time to get to work and prove it. Show us why the Nike team would want to take your crew on a dream trip. Submit videos, photos, any or all updates on who’s blowing up where you are. You have from now until July 29th to get something up. Hopefully you’ll find yourself at the US Open shortly thereafter, battling it out for the grand prize. The countdown to the US Open begins now.
