| Elliot Sloan becomes newest member of the 900 clubElliot Sloan landed the first-ever 900 tailgrab on a MiniMega ramp at the Maloof Money Cup in Kimberly, South Africa. In front of an wildly hyped crowd, who were getting to see the MiniMega Ramp for the first time in person, Sloan joined skateboarding's exclusive 900 club. He attempted the trick unsuccessfully several times during the jam session but finally landed the 900 before the buzzer sounded. Elliot Sloan First Ever 900 Tailgrab on Mini-Mega Ramp from Skatepark of Tampa on Vimeo. Elliot joins Tony Hawk, Georgio Zatoni, Sandro Dias, Burnquist, Alex Perelson, and the youngest member Mitchie Brusco. Elliot came so close at X Games 17 but was unable to land the trick under the bright lights. After X Games Elliot targeted Maloof Money Cup South Africa as the contest he was going to finally land the 900. The trick was enough to earn Elliot the win in the MiniMega best trick contest. Back in June of 2008 in NYC's Central Park, I was on hand to witness Elliot take his shot at the massive quarterpipe for the first time. Since then Elliot has come along way becoming a force to be reckoned with on the MiniRamp. A special congratulations goes out to Elliot Sloan. Channels: Skate Alex Perelson and the tailgrab 900Young lad Alex Perelson may have just immortalized his name into the pages of skateboarding history. He is already the youngest in an elite group of humans who have landed a 900 degree rotation on a skateboard. Tony Hawk, Giorgio Zattoni, Sandro Dias, and Bob Burnquist are some pretty impressive company. Tony Hawk did it first in 1999, using a mute grab to hold his board to his feet during the intense rotation. Now Alex has added a new degree of difficulty by grabbing his tail. Some may argue that a tail grab isn't thaaat hard, but i don't see those people doing two and a half rotations while ten feet above the coping of a 15 foot vert ramp. Check it out for yerself. I'm sitting here in a Courtyard Marriot in the city of Boston about to get on a subway to head on over. In the mean though I thought I'd give you a little preview, because I may not make it home. I'm going to wear a Lakers Championship shirt all the way over, and at the contest. Oh, did I mention it's at the TD Garden, where the Celtics play. ![]() Let's start in street. There's the event favorite Paul Rodriguez who's coming off a 2nd at the the Maloof Money Cup in NYC, and if I know P-Rod I know he'll be his usual land everything self. Then there's the reigning event winner, Ryan Sheckler. This will be his first major contest since breaking his foot at the X Games last year. I thought we were going to get to see how he recovered at Maloof, but he pulled out last minute because of an injury. The newly made Zoo York pro Chaz Ortiz will also be skating, and the always a threat to win, Greg Lutzka too. Although, my pick to really turn heads is going is going to be Hallelujah star Ryan Decenzo. My predictions: 1. Paul Rodriguez 2. Ryan Decenzo 3. Greg Lutzka 4. Chaz Ortiz 5. Ryan Sheckler Now on to vert. I though we were going to get to see Olympic gold medalist, Shaun White, skate but apparently he pulled out. It may have something to do with the new coach of the US snowboard team, I don't know. I know one guy who is for sure skating, and is coming in on a roll, Bucky Lasek, who is the reigning Dew Tour Vert Champion, and just won the Pro-Tec Pool Party. Then there's Lizard King's buddy, Pierre Luc-Gagnon (PLG), who is always a threat. Also, Alex Perelson, is vert's next big thing and will for sure shine. My predictions: 1. PLG 2. Bucky Lasek 3. Alex Perelson 4. Bob Burnquist 5. Rob Lorifice The contest will be televised on NBC, so check it out if you get a chance. I don't know what time, I don't write for TV Guide; find out yourself, remember skateboarding is D.I.Y. Above Ryan Sheckler with b/s boardslide on B-Ball backboard. Photo: Elsa via Getty Images. "After taking a year off, the Dew Tour's Skate Open is the perfect place for me to kick-offmy summer of skating." Highlighting the athlete roster for the Dew Tour's Skate Open, two-time Olympic gold medalist White immediately switched his focus to skateboarding for the remainder of the 2010 season after claiming his second consecutivegold medal in the men's snowboard halfpipe competition at the Vancouver Games. Almost as accomplished on the vert ramp as he is in the halfpipe - capturing the 2007 Dew Cup with three straight event titles before taking home an X Games gold medal that samesummer - White will be competing at the Dew Tour's Skate Open - his first skateboarding contest since his recent Olympic snowboarding victory, and his first time competing for the title of Skate Vert World Champion. In addition to White, top skate athletes from around the world will be competing at the Skate Open in both skate park and vert, including defending Dew Cup champion and Skate Vert World Champion, Bucky Lasek. Boston-local Andy Macdonald, up-and-comer Alex Perelson and vert legend Bob Burnquist will also be among those competing at TD Garden against White in a fierce battle for both the Skate Open win and the title of ISF Skateboarding World Champion in the vert discipline. The defending Skate Park World Champion and three-time Dew Cup champion, Ryan Sheckler will look to repeat his World Champion status again in 2010. However, he will have to contend with the likes of Paul Rodriguez,Chaz Ortiz and Greg Lutzka.A sneak peek at the skate park course for this year's Skate Open, ISF Skateboarding World Championships is available by visiting www.allisports.com The Skate Open schedule of events is as follows: Friday, June 25 - Gates open at 3pm 3:00pm Festival Village opens 3:45pm-5:00pm Women's SKB vert prelims 5:15pm-6:45pm Men's SKB park prelims, Group 17:15pm-8:45pm Men's SKB park prelims, Group 29:00pm-10:30pm Concert at City Hall Plaza Saturday, June 26 - Gates open at noon Noon Festival Village opens 4:00pm-4:45pm Women's SKB vert finals 5:00pm-6:00pm Men's SKB vert finals 7:00pm-8:00pm Women's SKB park finals 8:30pm-9:30pm Men's SKB park finals **Schedule is subject to change** Channels: Skate PLG Stays True to Skating Roots and It Pays OffPhoto: Elsa via Getty Images Pierre Luc Gagnon edged out Bucky Lasek and Andy McDonald to take the gold at the supposedly dead X Games Vert event. It didn't seem so deceased to me today. There was some serious technical coping killing (bad choice of words I know), and above the deck gnar that went down. Plus, it was on national television, and in front of a packed house, the only time something dead has been able to pull that off, it was Michael Jackson's body. PLG had some steazy runs in which he stuck nollie backside bigspin heelflips, and airs like fakie 720s. In Bucky's second place runs he had it "his way" with McEggplants, and a few switch 540s. Then there was good old Andy MacDonald, I can't believe this guy is still around, I remember him competing against Tony Hawk when the X Games were in their infant years. His sponsors too! He's got to be the only guy on the Airwalk team. You know how he has pulled it off? Consistency, he sticks everything, nothing too crazy, but everything he does, he lands. It's also worth noting that 15-years into this thing Andy and Bucky are bringing home medals. There you have it, PLG opted out of the Big Air contest to focus on vert and it payed off. He is now a gold medalist in a classic skateboarding event. Not an Evel Knievel stunt show. Results: 1. Pierre Luc Gagnon 2. Bucky Lasek 3. Andy MacDonald Channels: Skate |
