Davey Cathels of Australia has just taken out the win of his career over Andrew Doheny in perfect head high bowls at Canguu. The final was a shootout, with big airs and big scores falling from the sky, and both surfers had a good taste of the lead before Cathels sealed it with a big lien air comboed with some rail work and a 9.60.

Cathels now takes the lead in the Oakley Pro Jr series, with the second of three stops happening next in Brazil. Cathels had originally planned to head to California for the O'neill Coldwater Classic in two weeks, but now that he sits in the pole position, he will be reconsidering his plans.

"I was going to go to Santa Cruz, but now maybe I'll go to Brazil. I'll have to have a long think about this and talk to my Dad and manager."

For Cathels, skipping a Prime event for a Jr isn't as odd as it may sound.

With surfing's compeitive structure leaning more towards aerials these days, we are going to start seeing these junior competitions carrying more weight. Due to sheer physical size, grommets are mastering air reo's much sooner than a trademark hack, and now that you can win a WCT event with airs, these Juniors just got a lot more relevant. Much like skateboarding, where you see Chaz Ortiz and Nyjah Houston being considered the best street skater on earth before he can legally buy porn and cigarettes, surfing's elite level may be opening its doors to younger generations of acrobatic man-boys. Gabriel Medina, Miguel Pupo, the movement has already begun...

The good folks over at Vans have just dropped the trailer for their first ever surf film Get-N-Classic Volume 1. The accomplices are as follows: Joel Tudor, Nathan Fletcher, Pat, Tanner and Dane Gudauskas, John, Ivan and Nathan Florence, Dylan Graves, Alex Knost, Andrew Doheny, Kalani Chapman and Jason "Ratboy" Collins. The trailer is pretty amazing, can't wait to see the whole enchilada. It's gonna be available for download August 8th.

Thransworld SURF's new movie High Five will premier tonight at the Lido Theater in Newport Beach.  It stars:  Andy Irons, Andrew Doheny, Eric Geiselman, Wade Goodall and Fergal Smith.  If you live in the Newport area this is for sure worth checking out.  Here, peep the trailer:

Two of Hawaii's finest, Bruce Irons and Coco Ho, recently embarked on a little summer tour of California with their sponsor Volcom. The tour's now pau, and the Stoney crew made a little video recap with music provided by Andrew Doheny and Ford Archbold's band Party Theft.

The best part is at the end when the kid from Germany wins one of Deheny's boards. Volcom surf TM, Mike Guarino, made the announcement, leaving me to wonder; Where's Christian Fletcher when you need him? Just kidding little German kid.

Andrew Doheny, aka Droid, lived up to his up to his slobbish rep on Fox's Good Morning LA. That's right live on regional morning news, 1/3 of the 3!Slobs was in the house via Skype. His performance was all time; bed head, half-assed answers and the bombshell that he is dating 3X ASP Women's World Champion, Stephanie Gillmore. A confession that was even news to Gillmore herself.

On a side note, I found out that Droid is like me when it comes to his influences in surfing. He said the only surfers he looks up to are the women of pro surfing, saying his two favorite surfers are Gillmore and Courtney Conlogue. I'm the same way, with how crazy progressive professional surfing has gotten in the past few years I'm starting to identify more with the ladies. My three favorite surfers being Christa Alves, Alana Blanchard and the Weekly Grind's own, Erica Hosseni.
