  • X Fighters heads to Sydney with the championship on the line

On September 17th, Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour will host the 2011 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour last event. For the first time in the tour's history, an event will go down on Australian soil.

It's the sixth and final stop for the series that will see Aussie Robbie Maddison & eleven other riders, battle it out for the title on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour.

It's about time a major freestyle motocross tour made its way to the land down under as several successful freestyle motocross riders hail from Australia. The sports popularity among the people is massive, just look at the turns out for the various freestyle demos like Crusty Demons and Nitro Circus.

The location of the event is special to Australian history as the Island was recently added to the World Heritage List as part of 11 convict sites. Unique remnants of the island's history scatter its 18 hectares, including solitary prison cells, hand carved grain silos, a military guardhouse and convict workshops. The island was also an industrial school, a reformatory and one of Australia's biggest shipyards.

This time around the island will be taken over by a different form of hooligans.

American Nate Adams is in the driver seat for his third consecutive X Fighters championship as he sits a top the leader board ahead of Spain's Dany Torres and Norway's Andre Villa. Realistically Adams only needs a solid showing in Sydney to win the title, but knowing his style Adams will be going for broke to put on a show for the crowd.

  • Blake Williams is the Second Competitor to Withdraw From X Games 16 With an Injury

GRINDTV NEWSWIRE via ESPN- Australia's Blake 'Bilko' Williams has withdrawn from Moto X Best Trick and Freestyle for X Games 16. The defending Freestyle champion and silver medalist in Best Trick, Williams broke his collarbone in late June when he failed to stomp a cliff hanger backflip in the third round of the Red Bull X-Fighters in Moscow, Russia.

Williams rushed back to the U.S. to have the collarbone with a plate, and began an intense rehab program with the hopes of being prepared for X16. But he aggravated the injury while hitting smaller, warm-up jumps last Thursday and cannot compete.

"I was just cruising around and my bars got a slight bit of head shake-- not even enough to make me go sideways -- and that gave my arm a gentle tug. I felt a harsh tearing sound and grinding feeling followed by immediate weakness and pain," Williams told ESPN FMX.

An MRI revealed that he had torn his labium and ripped out one of the sutures used to repair the collarbone.

Williams expressed disappointment over the new injury, but recognized that it was a far better situation to have sustained it while warming up, as opposed to during X Games itself. "If I had hit a ramp, it would only be a matter of time before the strain of doing tricks would have finished it off and I could have very well been hanging off my bike when it did tear, with no chance of getting back on. That could have ended in more severe injuries."

As always, Williams was unwilling to let the setback get him down: "I will be back next year to claim back what I believe is mine ... another X games gold medal!"

  • Monster Energy Announces World-Class Team Competing at X Games 16

Expect non-stop action as Monster Energy athletes hit events across Moto, BMX, Skate and Rally at X Games 16, beginning this Thursday, July 29 through Sunday, August 1. It's all going down center stage in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and in and around STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA.

A total of eight Monster riders are competing in Moto events. In Best Trick, Kyle Loza will be defending as the three-time Moto X Best Trick Gold medalist--after a recent wrist surgery, could we see the bike flip and the first-ever four-peat in the event? He'll face Monster Energy Teammate Blake "Bilko" Williams, an always-exciting rider with loads of swagger.

Hitting the track as defending 2008-2009 Super X Gold Medalist will be Josh Hansen, who's playing triple duty as a competitor in Super X, Speed & Style, and Best Whip--it should be a great show. Also lining up in Super X is Nick Wey, a rider with speed and perseverance that's always a force on the track.

A methodical trick machine, Nate Adams will hit the Speed & Style course as the event returns to the X line-up. He'll also do work in Freestyle Motocross, joined by the defending gold-medalist "Bilko" and serious threat Adam Jones, who's already won at X Fighters this year.

Sara Price will battle as she combines speed and rhythm on July 29 in Super X Women, a semi-new event that's gaining more interest, fans, and excitement constantly--these girls are powerhouses!

In BMX Vert the number one threat will be Monster's Jamie Bestwick, who's often called the best BMX Vert rider ever and is a five-time X Games Vert gold medalist.

In BMX Park two time X Games gold medalist and four-time medalist Scotty Cranmer will be back for more hardware, but he'll have to contend with the legendary Dave Mirra, a medal-collector who's been practicing hard lately and contest-mainstay Ryan Guettler. Andy Buckworth, a young buck from Australia with loads of flip variations like the double front, will battle in BMX Big Air.

Mirra and Ken Block are playing double duty behind the wheel as they both compete in Rally Racing and the all-new Super Rally, which sees four cars on the track at the same time. Mirra, known for his legendary BMX career, has become a threat as he pushed a different pedal to the metal. And Block, now a WRC driver, will be hot off the line and nimble through the turns as he seeks redemption and his first-ever Gold in the event he's medaled in every single year.

Expect more major action as Skate Big Air and Skate Big Air Rail Jam competitors take to the MegaRamp inside the iconic Coliseum. Jake Brown will come in with big plans after the memorable gold medal last year and perhaps more-memorable slam two years ago, while his Monster teammate Pierre Luc Gagnon (PLG) will translate his vert skills and smoothness to the Big Air ramp. The Quebec tech-wizard will also compete in Skate Vert Trick (as the defending Gold medalist) and also Skate vert alongside Alex Perelson, a young force on the ramp with a proven 900. Perelson will also look to make a big impression as he competes in Skate Park.
