Hobgood is arguably the biggest surprise on this year's ASP World Tour when it comes to title contenders. Halfway through the season Florida's "other" world champion is quietly creeping his way back for another one, and what's funny is hardly anyone's noticing. Can he really threaten Parko? Hey, stranger things have happened. But more importantly this solid season means C.J.'s mid-career slump seems well behind him now. After winning his title during the abbreviated season of 2001 C.J. hit a rough patch, finishing between 15 and 20 in the rankings for four out of the next five years. But he's been steadily climbing out of late. Finishing 11th in 2001, 5th in 2008, and now he's in the runner up spot. Certainly some of the credit goes to his coach Chris Gallagher, a former ASP World Tour surfer from California who has helped C.J. and his brother Damien get back to their dominating ways. | ||||||||||||||
