What Davi Millsaps' Supercross stunner in Anaheim means for 2013

    Contributed by Chris Mauro

The 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season got off to an eye-opening start at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, Saturday night with Davi Millsaps claiming his first victory since 2010. In a stark contrast to the last few years, which have been dominated by a select few riders, this year it looks like there will be much more of a revolving door on the way to the podium.

Millsaps' victory is a big sign that the field of viable contenders is larger than ever this year, thanks..

Dasi Mudflaps, shown here lapping Grant Langston and getting chased by Michael Byrne, continues to probably not live up to expectations. He won at least one heat this season, and he at times (like, maybe, one lap out of 20) shows brilliant talent and speed, but he just doesn’t seem to have ‘it’. This comes as no surprise as Davi’s been accused of this for a couple of years now and we’re just here to tell you: it’s still happening.
This is a pre-pro Broc Hepler, quad’ing into the Dirty Dozen at Kenworthy’s in the 2003 Suzuki RM Cup Challenge. I miss that place, and I miss Broc Hepler, and together on that day, they were brilliant. The race was stacked that year, with Izzi, Hepler, Millsaps, Osborne, etc. all going for broke. I actually shot this for Transworld, on film, which was a pretty odd combo for me. Canon EOS-1VHS, E100-VS and a 300mm 2.8. (Jeff Kardas Photo)

I am a tutor of a 9 year old little boy who was in a terrible motocross accident and, by the grace of God, survived. He is one of your biggest fans and is still struggling in the hospital. It would really lift his spirits if he could hear from you. He is a strong little guy but is, understandably, having a hard time coping with the accident and his injuries. One of his best friends wrote this letter to you- please read it and consider contacting Hunter- you would be the biggest boost in his recovery! Dear Davi Millsaps, April 2, 2008 Hi I’m Nicholas Depoy, [age 10] Hunter’s best friend. Hunter [age 9] is my friend that races motorcycles, but he crashed two and a half weeks ago. He had to get surgery from his neck to his back. They had to use one of his ribs to fix his spine. He is in the normal part of the hospital now but he used to be in the ICU. Hunter needs you to come to make him confident and cheer him on. He is in a lot of pain and needs to meet a superstar like you to come and just make him forget about the pain. It will hopefully make him smile. It will give hope that a great idol like you is praying that he will get better. Please come help my friend in his time of need. Hope we see you soon, Hunter’s best friend, Nick, in Atlanta Georgia Thank you for your time. We hope to hear from you soon! courtneymbernardo@yahoo.com
