| Aussie surfers reveling in psycho cyclonesIt's been a chaotic few weeks down in Australia, where a feast and famine storm track has surfers marveling at mother nature when they're not busy trying to keep their houses from floating down the street. Brutal storms have been ravaging both sides of the country for the past few weeks. Today a category 5 cyclone by the name of Yasi is slamming the coast of of Northern Queensland. Experts are saying this is the biggest cyclone to hit Australia since Europeans began settling the continent. But what's worse is the same region was slammed last month as floods ravaged the area. As is usually the case in these situations, these storms are a mixed blessing for surfers, who have been in total awe of the perfect swells marching down both coasts. While much of Brisbane was underwater in January, the clock was being turned back on Kirra, returning the sand-spitting grinder to its former glory. Then just last week Western Australia got smacked by a massive storm as well. Cyclone Bianca lit up Taj Burrow's old playground for days (see above). The world's number three surfer in the world was claiming some of the best conditions he's ever seen near his home of Yallingup. Meanwhile, back on the Gold Coast, Mick Fanning and Dean Morrison have been seen getting ridiculous pits at their beloved Kirra. ![]() Morrison's Kirra performances are also a major plot line in the just released biopic A Dingo's Tale which has just been released. According to Joel Parkinson, it's pretty damn good, too. "Movie of the year!" He tweeted. Parko has been busy too. He and his buddy needed rescuing when a boat they were in capsized during one of the recent swells. Initial reports said it was Parko's boat. But it was his friends. Still no clear word on who was driving it. Images emanating from Oz have surfing fans already frothing for the start of the 2011 ASP Season. The Quik Pro just a few weeks away. It's too early to tell what the fallout of this newest storm will be. Right now most east coasters are taking cover. It's going to get ugly in the short term. But if the last few weeks are any guide it won't take surfers long to recover. Channels: Surf A Dingo's Tale![]() Dean 'Dingo' Morrison has a new biopic film coming out, and here's the first trailer. One of the Coolie Kids, Dingo grew up with Fanning and Parko as his best mates, but has had his share of ups and downs in recent years. This film aims to tell those stories. Channels: Surf Oscar And Dingo Drop Innersection Sections![]() Ozzie Wrong, who does not belong, aka Ozzie Wright, and Dean Morrison have dropped their Innersection sections. Remember, this a contest to get a part in the next Taylor Steele movie, the top 5 make it, and you, the people, decide by voting. Ozzie's section is pretty, pretty, pretty cool. He rides a unicorn from the planet Zorn, performs the music that is heard, which is the song The Unicorn From The Planet Zorn, and of course, kills it in the water. Click here to check it out. And there's Morrison, who's had a rough few days after being assaulted outside a Coolangatta, Aus watering hole, which landed him in the hospital with a broken cheek bone. Although, being the Aussie mad man that he is, he will compete at the Billabong Pro Jeffery's Bay. So, check out his section by clicking here. Dean Morrison AssaultedA report from Australian news site Goldcoast.com.au stated that Dean Morrison was assaulted early on Sunday morning in his hometown of Coolangatta. The report went on to say that Dingo was struck in the face by a man that he did not know and suffered an array of facial injuries as a result, including a broken cheekbone and numerous lacerations. According to the story, Dingo was still in the hospital and unable to comment, but longtime Coolangatta frontman, Rabbit Bartholomew, spoke to the GoldCoast.com about the assault. "He [Dingo] had gone out in his home town to have a few beers with his mates, which you should be able to do," said Bartholomew. "He was just sitting down and some guy came along and nailed him in the skull with a bottle. "It knocked him out and he hit the ground on his head. I think what saved him was the fact that he was sitting down. "If he was standing up he would have taken the full brunt of the ground on his skull but he landed on his cheekbone. "He is extremely lucky that one, he didn't get killed and two, he didn't get brain damage. "He has a lot of lacerations on his forehead -- he looks like he has hit the reef. "One eye is completely shut and apparently there is no damage but it looks damaged. He could have been blinded." The article went on to state that a man in his 20s was arrested for the crime. According to a recent post on the ASP's website, Morrison will be competing in the upcoming Billabong Pro at J-Bay. Nearing the halfway mark, Dingo is currently seated on the back end of the tour in the number-37 position and not looking strong to requalify. It's not currently clear what the long-term effect of this assault will have on Dingo's play in the 2010 season. Stay locked to GrindTV for more on this story as it develops. Channels: Surf Watch Out for Coolangatta's Third Bee Gee...Dean MorrisonThere's been much ado about Mick and Joel this year with the whole race thingy they had going on. But while Coolangatta's two front man were battling in the bright lights, their good mate Dean "Dingo" Morrison, who's essentially the third Bee Gee in this little merry band of Cooly Cat brothers, has been doing a good job getting his own groove back. Dingo might even creep into the spotlight at Pipeline. He's already in the quarterfinals, matching his best result of the year at J-Bay. He stands a good chance now of making the Top 16, which will earn him a much better seed in 2010. And on Saturday, in case you forgot, he actually beat Mick in Round Four, just after Mick officially became world champion. While Fanning wasn't exactly trying to grind out a win, had he been, he still would have had his hands full with Dingo, who's been looking very solid at Backdoor Pipeline. There's a reason for that. "I usually spend about six weeks a year here after everyone goes home," says Morrison. "I feel pretty comfortable with most of Pipeline's moods." Dean's got an uphill road to make the final. He's up against Damien Hobgood when competition resumes, and will likely have to face Slater in the semis if he can get past that hurdle (though we shouldn't count Flynn Novak out--after all Slater loses to wild cards more than his fellow tour contemporaries.) But there will be two guys on the beach cheering pretty damn loud for old Dingo, and a proud city back home hoping he puts the icing in their cake. Channels: Surf | ||||||||||||||
