My SportsSnowboarding | AboutIn the first Snowboard Cross event ever to be held at the Olympics, Drew will be representing Canada, complete with signature red maple leaf on his helmet. This father of a toddler has a WX medal of every color (2 in SBX and 1 in ULX) and he considers his win in 2000 his biggest career highlight. In 2005 he couldn't compete at WX after tearing his ACL in a crash at the Grand Prix (Mt. Bachelor, January 2005), but he persevered, spending the rest of the winter rehabbing it and coming back strong in the fall. A likely member of the Canadian Olympic team in 2006, Drew finished the '04 season ranked 3rd in the world by the FIS and started '04/05 with a win in Chile. Known for going huge on the SBX course, he has even bigger things in his life in 2005. He welcomed his first child, Caleb, into the world on Aug. 31. With one WX medal of every color, (2 in SBX and 1 in ULX) Drew is back at WX for his 6th time in 2005. Ranked 4th in the world for SBX in '03 by the FIS, Canadian Drew Neilson is back to compete at Winter X '04 after a back injury in practice took him out of '03. He is the 2000 Winter X gold medalist from and famous for his rivalry with Shaun Palmer. Drew is looking forward to competing against Palmer once again at Winter X. Drew is ready for another win in SBX at WX '02. At WX '01 he over-jumped a step-up in the semi's, causing him to snap his board, landing him a spot in the consolation bracket. Drew is one of the few racers replacing ISF with FIS events. |
