  • boob: The Best Of Dave Carnie

Dave Carnie was the editor of the most notorious skate magazine of all time, Big Brother. It spawned from Steve Rocco's World Industries camp and was later sold to Larry Flynt of Hustler fame, who published the monthly mail box stuffer until its final issue.

In its lifespan the magazine covered skateboarding like no one had up until that time, or ever since. They told it like it was, nothing was out of bounds. If the demo sucked, and this guy was the reason; that's what they wrote. If they told every truck manufacturers they were doing a truck review and were sent free trucks. They reviewed them by pooping on each truck.

The publication made national news with stories on how to kill yourself, do drugs or whatever else they were into at the time. One newscaster in particular took it upon herself to make them look as negative as possible. Just to mess with her, when she would show up to do interviews the Big Brother staff would wear shirts calling her a media whore and hats of the competing news channel.

Oh yeah, and a good portion of it's staff went on to make up the cast of little television series turned movie trilogy that goes by the name Jackass.

Well, Dave Carnie, was the man behind the keyboard of some Big Brother's best and most controversial stories. He has always been an outspoken, straight-shooter, who is not in it to make friends or be part of an industry. And it's his writings that are some of the most remembered. He would do anything for the story, or a laugh.

That's why King Publishing and Vans thought it was necessary to release boob, a collection of Dave's best writings from Big Brother. A must have for anyone that read the infamous magazine.

I think Dave's personality can be summed up in this Ethan Fowler episode of Epicly Later'd below. He comes in at the 1:04 mark:

"One of the first times I met Ethan it was his birthday and me and Tobin went over to his house. And he seemed weird, kind of odd, he was playing jazz really loud, and playing his drums. And he was drinking whiskey, I remember that, and he was only fifteen. I was doing speed at the time, and so I offered him some speed, and he was like 'f-ck yeah?' AND I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS ONLY FIFTEEN. And then I learned later that he was drunk on whiskey, he was high on speed, but before all that he had dropped two hits of acid. I dunno, obviously I like that kind of thing in people, so we had a good time that night." - Dave Carnie
