Now, from April 5-9, he will be taking off to attempt his second world championship title in the Snowkite. "The Next Chapter" is the name of the new cult film about the Snowkite, in which icon Guillaume Chastagnol demonstrates and explains what this sport is all about. There is an impression of this in the photo gallery – the Frenchman explains it in these words: "It is snowboarding with a third dimension. You can fly up the mountain. And that is only the beginning: This sport has no borders." Chasta, how Guillaume Chastagnol is called, must know this, as he ranks even among the best snowkiters in the world. The feeling to belong to the best was however already familiar before his Snowkite pursuits. Because chapter one of his career was completed by the Frenchman as a snowboarder – likewise in the world's elite: At the Olympics in 1998 in Nagano, he placed fifth in the Halfpipe, and at the X-Games in the same year he got silver. After this, he decided to replace the skilift with a kite as a means of ascent. Chasta was 27 when he started with the snowkite. Today, he has been the king of the kites for a long time. At the Winter Tour 2002, he had to be content with second place, and in 2003 he won the Tour for the first time. He also won again in 2004, where he also secured the world championship title for the first time it was ever awarded. There was no opportunity to defend his world championship title due to bad weather (his renewed – and even undefeated – overall victory at the Winter Tour 2005 however confirmed his position at number 1). From April 5-9, 2006, he will however now have this chance: In the Norwegian town of Vadso, the ISKA World Championships will take place. And who’s the favorite? Guillaume Chastagnol. |
