  • About

Jake Weimer had an incredible 2009, which started out with a win at the SX Lites West Opener in Anaheim on January 3rd, 2009. He went on to earn three supercross wins and six podiums, taking second overall in the standings. He followed up three 250cc AMA Motocross wins with another overall win as a USA member on the 2009 Motocross of Nations team. He's already started 2010 off right, repeating his Anaheim 1 Supercross win on January 9, 2010.

Weimer: Fast, smooth, perfect, ready to move up and challenge Dungey/Stewart/Hill.
Lites Main start, and the Weimer/Hansen duo charge to the first turn in the lead. Hansen’s a great starter (as is Weimer), but as far as holding his spot up front, well, not so much. Another notable here is Broc Tickle (#20), who ended up going down early and was never a factor. Bummer luck for Tickle but hey, like Ricky Carmichael says - you make your own luck! Tough crowd here.
On to the Lites West class, and the podium goes: 1st, Jake Weimer; 2nd, Wil Hahn and 3rd, Trey Canard. We wish we could say this was a good race, but Jake Weimer is making the season kind of boring. He’s pretty much smoking everyone at this point and, if we look past Hahn’s remarkable ride, there really wasn’t much to get excited about.
A future rivalry in the making, Jake Weimer and Ryan Villopoto discuss bike setup with THOR’s Victor Sheldon following practice. Weimer seems to be the undisputed cream of the crop this season in the Lites West class, which is a good thing since he’ll have to move up to the big boys next season. When he does, RV will be there waiting for him so any friendships that are forming now may be tested on a regular basis. Phoenix was probably the turning point for Villopoto, where he will start truly pushing for the win every time he hits the track for the rest of the season. Despite fearing he’d broken his wrist earlier in the week, Ryan #2 pushed the leader’s pace (Ryan #5) for over half of the main before finally making just a couple of small mistakes that allowed a gap to form. For Weimer, he too was riding somewhat injured in his races after he’d tweaked his foot pretty good early in the practice sessions during the day. He did seem a bit patient as he worked up from a bad start, but after following Wharton and Morais around for much of the main, he finally made his move and went in for the win. Jake’s possibly going to have his foot looked at this week, so stay tuned to whether or not he’ll be near 100% for this weekend (apparently he doesn’t really need to be).
