Jarrad Howse seemingly came out of nowhere to qualify for the 06 WCT. He had a solid year on the QS coming into Hawaii in the high thirties but was the proverbial dark horse. He won the 4 Star Santander Pro earlier in the year in Liencres, Spain and his year grew from there. He made the quarterfinals finals at the OP Pro at Haleiwa and suddenly he was on the cusp of one of the hardest feats a professional surfer has to accomplish. He was on the verge of the big time and had one obstacle in front of him. Big out of control burly Sunset Beach with an all Hawaiian quarterfinal stacked with Sunny Garcia, Pancho Sullivan, and Nathan Carroll. He needed to make it of that heat like a gambler needs a couple of aces and the odds were not in Jarrad's favor. But he pulled a stunning upset and ousted Sunny Garcia and Pancho Sullivan and placed second in the heat like a hero. He ended up placing 5th in the event and the house lost! Jarrad qualified for the WCT by 31 points and became one of the most talked about stories of the 05 ASP season.

In retrospect he did what we need to do and his ability is where it should be, on the WCT. Jarrad posses's abilities in every condition. He rips the shories of his hometown near Manly, Australia and just the same, he can go over to the North Shore and do some serious damage. He was the silent assassin and before anybody knew what happened there were bodies lying all around and he was entering the door to the WCT. He is looking forward to continuing his work on the WCT 06 Dream Tour where he again will take out some more unsuspecting victims.
