  • Ortiz Quialifies First At Dew Tour Salt Lake City

GRINDTV Newswire via Allied: Skate park prelims saw some familiar faces and some not so familiar faces advancing to the finals on Saturday at the Toyota Championship. Sort of a stranger to skating in prelims but not at being in the finals, Chaz Ortiz cruised his way to the top spot in skate park prelims with a score of 90.50.

Jereme Rogers barely made it to the prelims in time and with no practice except for the five minutes before his heat, but he still managed to pull his first six tricks in the jam. His momentum continued and he ended qualifying second with a respectable score of 88.

Ryan Decenzo has made every final so far this year and he continued his run despite breaking his board two thirds of the way into his heat. No biggie as he just borrowed a board and made his next four tricks as the heat ended.

A new face to a Dew Tour final will be Andrew Pott. After a couple of falls at the beginning of his heat, Andrew got on a roll and rolled right into the fourth spot of the prelims. After just missing the cut in Portland by one spot, Carlos De Andrade got it together and put himself cleanly in the finals with the fifth spot.

Not disappointing his hometown fans or his 10-month baby girl, Adam Dyet skated the best he has all year on the tour and did what he does every time the Dew Tour comes to Utah by making the finals with his sixth place in prelims.

Another regular to this year's skate park finals, and just missing the podium at each stop, was Bastien Salabanzi. He pulled all his regular tricks and just a few uncharacteristic falls kept him from qualifying higher than the seventh slot.

Sierra Fellers missed making the finals in Portland but got back on track to make his second finals of the year after qualifying in the eighth spot. Back-to-back bubble boy Fabrizio Santos made the cut once again and will be looking to improve on his tenth-place-finish in Portland. Joining these nine qualifiers in the finals are Greg Lutzka, Ryan Sheckler and Paul Rodriguez the top three points leaders racing for the Dew Cup.

  • Jereme Rogers Out Of Retirement

GRINDTV Newswire via Selfish skateboards: This email is to announce the launch of Jereme Rogers' Selfish Skateboards blog. This is only the first step of many to come over the next few months. We will present a 2nd pro skateboarder on July 1 on both the Web site and blog. Expect lots of promo videos, high profile collaborations and skateboard graphics to be unveiled shortly.

"After riding for the largest brands like Plan B and Girl Skateboards, I'm happy to take a step forward and finally be able to do things on my own terms! Our goal is simple: to sponsor elite skateboarders, pay higher royalties and offer higher quality products. It's the skateboarders that make these large companies and I think the cut given to the skater isn't fair"--Jereme Rogers

The skateboards are made with East Coast hardrock Canadian maple in Canada so we have fresh boards that wont snap like a twig. Most brands nowadays manufacture their product in China. Kids end up paying for a sub-par product at the same price as a high-end product. You are basically ripping off kids that put their hard earned money on a product that won't last. This is a conscious choice made by many large brands to make larger margins and we at Selfish Skateboards believe that isn't right.

We believe the time for a change has come! We hope the industry will support us in our goal. Check out this video:

  • JR's Latest Goodbye

Everyone's favorite mushroom enthusiast, the tripping preacher himself, Jereme Rogers, has said later once again to skateboarding. This time in music. He's been the butt of a lot of jokes lately in the skate world, so I'm going to take it easy on him. Plus, he a super nice guy. I never really talked to him until earlier this year at a Maloof after-party at some mansion in Laguna Beach, and I'll say it again, he was super nice. Anyway, I may disagree with some of his career choices, but I'm not going to rip on him.

Here's his latest goodbye to skateboarding in his new song "Goodbye Skateboarding."

  • The Rappin' Fungi Retires From Skateboarding

    Jereme rogers
Jereme Rogers has announced he will officially retire from professional skateboarding. It has been a strange few weeks for the Boston native, which came to a peak two weeks ago when he was arrested on his rooftop in LA, preaching naked and high on mushrooms.

Then, yesterday it was announced that he has been dropped from his clothing sponsor Famous Stars and Straps. "We run a true skateboarding program at Famous, we are always on tour filming for our video, doing demos, competing etc. We support our riders' ambitions, but skateboarding needs to always comes first. Good luck J," said Famous team manager, Felix Arguelles.

It appears that Arguelles was hinting at the fact that Roger's hip hop ambitions have been affecting his skateboarding focus, not to mention have been the butt of jokes in the industry. Rogers has also been talking about God, Jesus and his spirituality a lot lately.

Where from here for Jereme Rogers? Well, it's obvious. He's going to be a naked, rapping, skateboarding preacher that speaks in tongues, kind of like a shaman. He'll eat his fill of mushrooms, start preaching through his rap, while skating naked around his followers. Then, when the mushrooms really start to kick in he'll finish with a good ol' fashion freak out in tongue, like those guys from the church that Borat went to.

  • JR Is A Fungi

    Jereme rogers
Apparently, Jereme Rogers ate mushrooms the other night, got naked and preached to the world on the top of his building, or what I call a Sunday night. Eric Koston tipped me off to this on Twitter, he said he laughed so hard he's still "wiping the tears out of his eyes." Here's the story:

    As reported on the daileybreeze.com:

Professional skateboarder Jereme Rogers said Wednesday he was sorry for disturbing his Redondo Beach neighbors this week when he "ate some `mushrooms' and bugged out," preaching naked on his rooftop.

Rogers, a high school dropout who attributes his skateboarding skills to God, was eventually grabbed by police officers and brought down from his precarious perch.

"It obviously was not an everyday experience," the 24-year-old athlete said. "It was a very out-of-body experience. I've never had an experience like that."

Rogers pulled off his boxer shorts about 6:40 a.m. Monday and climbed onto the roof of the two-story house he shares with roommates on Havemeyer Lane and Goodman Avenue.

"It was obviously something I shouldn't have done," Rogers said as he rolled a marijuana joint in his bedroom. "It was just something that happened."

Redondo Beach police Lt. Jim Acquarelli climbed about 20 to 30 feet to the roof, where he found Rogers yelling and screaming. Acquarelli said Rogers' roommates told him that he had ingested the hallucinogenic drug.

Rogers ran back and forth around the roof's perimeter, sitting down at the edge with his back to the street.

"He would have fragmented, interrupted conversations with people that weren't there," Acquarelli said.

Rogers never tried to jump or talked of suicide, but he came very close to falling.

"He never lost his balance," the lieutenant said.
