Joanie has made the SBX final both years she has competed ('04/'05) at Winter X even though she was an amatuer competing against a field of pro riders. A member of the U.S. Snowboarding C Team, Joanie is a sophomore at Lake Tahoe Community College, where she takes classes in the fall and now competes fulltime at the pro level. Focused on making her way to the Olympic team, she mainly competes in boardercross, but does a handful of halfpipe and slopestyle events.She will enter WX SuperPipe for the third time in '06. In 2005, her little sister Jamie Anderson was in the SBX field. Joanie was the sole sister to make the final again, increasing her finish to 4th. The pair will meet again in SuperPipe at WX '06.
Despite at 5th place finish in SBX at WX '05, Joanie continued to compete on the amatuer pipe and SBX circuit in 2004. She ruled it, winning Junior Worlds (SBX) and USASA Nationals (SBX and Halfpipe), and proved she's more than ready to compete with the pros in 2005. Competing in both SBX and SuperPipe for the second year in a row at Winter X, Joanie will have the support of her huge family, 7 brothers and sisters, including sister Jamie, who is also competing at Winter X '05.
After placing second in both halfpipe and boardercross at the USASA Nationals in April 2003, Joanie went from being a strong regional competitor in the South Lake Tahoe area to a top national rider. A former competitive gymnast, Joanie's gymnastics background has aided her riding significantly, making it easy for her to pick up aerial tricks in the superpipe, while giving her the confidence to go fast in boardercross. She is competing in SuperPipe and SBX at WX '04.
