New family. New gear. New sponsors. I've got Dragon, Osiris, Honda so I'm stoked. There are a lot of new changes. What's going on in your head with riding and your career? What's your mindset? Just positive. I'm stoked to be back home. I was back in North Carolina for a while and to be back here with the family and back to a bike that I'm familiar with, everything's going great. Does it make that much of a difference to be here as opposed to where you were? Was it an uncomfortable situation and were you out of your comfort zone or element? It's got to be both. You're definitely out of your element just because I've grown up out here but it wasn't bad. There are pros and cons to everything but at the same time it's what you're comfortable with and what you're familiar with that ultimately makes you happy. Who do you predict will get second in the championship? Second? I don't know. I'm not really worried about second. Anybody can go out there and win a race. Everybody is really riding really good right now. Hopefully James gets second. How long did it take you to get acquainted with this Honda motorcycle and get up to Josh Grant speed? Not very long. I've been on a Honda even through amateurs and even with GEICO a couple years ago so being back on a Honda just instantly felt comfortable right off the bat. It's a bike I've been really familiar with. I've rode one for over 6 years so I'm just glad to be back riding red. Have you changed anything in your program in the last 6 months to ensure you're healthy and solid for the entire season? Yes, I hired on Randy Lawrence as a trainer. He had worked with Villopoto a few years back when they were winning championships and whatnot so I've had him in my corner. We've done a lot of work so I think with him there and me feeling comfortable on the bike and all the things in a row I think we have a possibility of winning. How hard is it to feel that you are going to win against some of this tough competition and in spite of unforeseen injuries that you've had over the last couple of years? Well injuries are injuries but as long as you are doing the work, you should feel confident that you can go out and win. With Randy in my corner, I feel confident that we're capable of winning so it's just a matter of putting all your ducks in a row, because I know the hard work is done. Have you changed your riding philosophy or technique in the last year or so? ![]() No, I don't ever change anything. I'm just a wild child so I go out and do whatever I can and try my hardest. I'm always the guy who just goes out and wings it and wants to win and that's what's going to happen. Do you even think about some of the new rookies coming into the 450 class now? That's something I've kind of dealt with in the past where I've worried about what other people are doing and who is riding what and who all is racing and whatnot so that's something I switched up this year. My mentality coming into the races is to just worry about myself and worry about my program that I need to do and I think that's really helped me carry on through practice and do my stuff. Yes, there's always going to be new talent that comes into the class every year, people have to move up, but for the most part it's a rookie season and you never know what to expect from them on a big bike. Channels: Moto MX Throwback: '07 High Point National![]() You've already re-lived round one of the 2007 Toyota Motocross Championship from Hangtown, now let's jump into our swayback machine again and revisit round two, High Point. Remember, these are the good 'ol days of the James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael Premier class battles, Ryan Dungey getting dialed in on the Lites class, Windham still looking young and spry and Josh Hill was still a face in the front of the pack. Round one of the Monster Energy Triple Crown of Motocross kicked off at High Point as well, so mucho dinero was on the line. High Point's podium shook out like this: Motocross Class 1. Ricky Carmichael 2. James Stewart 3. Davi Millsaps Lites Class 1. Josh Grant (1st AMA overall outdoors) 2. Ryan Villopoto 3. Jason Lawrence Pre-Show - 13min 10sec Davi Coombs and Jason Weigandt open the pre-show from High Point with a great rundown of the differences between round 1 and 2 of the 2007 Toyota Motocross Championship. Out in the pits, the shockingly beautiful, and currently very much missed 2007 Ms. Motocross Leticia Cline is interviewing Rob Buydos about the vintage race happening throughout the weekend. Weigandt picks Millsap's brain while he warms up for practice and pulls a few interesting tidbits about High Point while at it. Post Show - 16min 03sec This Post Show features a montage of scenes from around the facility and a lot of familiar, but shockingly younger faces. David Pingree and Jason Weigandt chase down the details of the weekend. In the Lites class Grant ran strong out front with a familiar duo in Villopoto and Lawrence behind him. In the Premier class Ricky Carmichael was airing out the finish line single well beyond what anyone else was capable of which helped him put some distance between him and the pack. There was some exciting racing going on between the GOAT and Stewart but at the end of the day, it was all RC4. Coming up on Wednesday is Southwick, stay tuned! Until then, here's a preview of the action from the sandbox: Channels: Moto Race Report: Unadilla - Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship![]() After a three-week break, the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship returned to action for Round 9 on Saturday with the Rockstar Energy Unadilla National from Unadilla Valley Sports Center. A massive crowd was on hand as the world's best riders attacked one of the most legendary tracks in the country. After four motos, Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., took his eighth consecutive 450 Class win while GEICO Powersports Honda's Trey Canard, of Shawnee, Okla., grabbed his fourth straight 250 Class victory. After grabbing the holeshot in the first premier class moto, Dungey never looked back, continually extending his advantage over the field to the checkered flag. In Moto 2, the rookie worked his way into the lead after a top five start, engaging in a great battle with teammate and World Motocross Championship contender Clement Desalle, of Belgium, to secure the moto sweep in the late stages. "I got a good start in Moto 1 and put myself in position to lead laps and take the win," said Dungey, who can wrap up the title at the next round. "I wasn't thinking of the overall (in Moto 2). I just race to win every time out. Clement (Desalle) surprised me. It's not easy to come over (to the states) and do well. It was good for him and good for us to have a competitive moto." Desalle, riding for Rockstar/Teka Suzuki in a guest appearance in the U.S., finished second (2-2) while GEICO Powersports Honda's Brett Metcalfe, of Australia, rounded out the overall podium (5-3) that featured riders from three different continents. In his long-awaited return to American motocross, San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., finished 11th overall (3-35). Dungey now holds a 111-point advantage heading into an off week and sits just one win away from tying 10-time AMA Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael, of Tallahassee, Fla., for the most wins ever by a rookie. He also leads the division in average finish at 1.9 and laps led with 144. ![]() Since claiming his first overall victory last month, Canard has continued to win, capturing the overall for the fourth consecutive round. A patient effort in Moto 1 helped Canard pass his teammate Justin Barcia, of Ochlocknee, Ga., late to take the opening victory. In Moto 2, Canard sprinted out to an early lead, holding on until the last lap before Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Christophe Pourcel, of France, made the winning pass. He settled for second in the moto to secure the overall win. "I saw (Pourcel) down in the first moto and I was surprised," said Canard. "Sometimes it happens and I just tried to do my best to take advantage. To walk out of here with a 16 point deficit instead of 38 feels great. In the second moto I made some mistakes and (Pourcel) was able to catch me but I knew I had the overall." Barcia finished second overall (3-5) with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Dean Wilson, of Scotland, in third (6-3). After a crash resulted in a DNF for the first moto, Pourcel rebounded to finish seventh (38-1). Pourcel's advantage over Canard sits at 16 points. Canard holds the best average finish in the class at 3.9 while Pourcel has led the most laps with 101.
