Kahea Hart used to drive a beat up car from "Town" (Honolulu), to the North Shore every day after school...he loved to surf V-land and Backdoor. Ten years later, Kahea is now living a stone's throw from his beloved Backdoor, with a beautiful Tahitian bride, and an infant son. Here Chris Malloy shares a few thoughts with Kahea...

Where were you born and where did you grow up surfing?


I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. My first time surfing was probably standing up on a bodyboard at Waimanalo shorebreak. From there I just progressed to Sandy Beach, which was the closest reef break to my house. Through high school and elementary school I just surfed every weekend. Pretty much all day, every day at Sandy Beach. Putting in my time. Once I graduated from high school I went over to California and did some PSAA events, and started checking out the pro scene and seeing what it had to offer. I went to college for a little while on the East Coast of Oahu, Windward Community [College]. I figured out that really wasnt what I wanted to do. Surfing was what I really wanted to do. It was my true love. So, I spent the whole summer working with my father, earned about four thousand dollars, and moved out to the North Shore when I was 20 years old. And Ive been here ever since. Ive just been enjoying the surfing life. I spend my time in the water and learn as much as I can about myself and life.
