    In an interesting twist, Karl's brother Dave qualified for WX '04 by winning the WSA Duluth WX qualifier in Nov. '03. But from the first night he earned his spot, he made noise about not wanting to come. He finally cancelled in early January. Karl, who did want to come, finally got the call to compete when Shaun Crapo was forced to withdraw due to injury.
