It's really fun, because each camera is different, and you never know what you're going to get. I made a pretty big change to my normal schedule this season, and decided not to compete. I've been competing for many years, and I needed a break. I wanted to take time to remind myself why I love being a professional skier, to stop going through the motions and have fun and learn new tricks again. So this year I headed back to Mammoth and moved in with my superstar friends, Kimmy Fasani, and Chris Benchetler for the winter. (Who, on a side note became "The Benchetlers" on September 10th this year. Congratulations!) Mammoth is my favorite ski resort in the world. I've based myself there for the last 10 seasons, and I couldn't have picked a better season to spend my time there. We got more snow than I have ever seen in my life! We had a record season, and I skied more powder days in one year, than I have in the last 5 combined. In years past, it always seemed like I had to leave town every time a storm was headed our direction. It was really exciting for me to slow down the travel days, and speed up the ski days. I loved using my Holga to take photos of the town buried under 668 inches of snow! The other great thing about being in Mammoth, is that everyone filters through there at some point during the winter. The Grand Prix was a ton of fun, and it's always great to see friends when they are in town for shoots. The highlight of my winter was The Standard Films girls shoot. I already mentioned my roommate Kimmy Fasani, but I have her to thank for letting me take part. We had three perfect days, two perfect jumps, snowmobiles, and a great crew. It was Kimmy, Erin Comstock, Jamie Anderson, Raewyn Reed, Kaya Turski and myself, and it was the most fun I had all season. We all got some great shots! The highlight of the week was hands down Kimmy's double back. That was a moment in snowboarding history and I was proud to be there. I really did have a great season, and in the end I accomplished my goals. I learned new tricks, became a better skier, and had a blast while doing it! I hope you enjoy some of the Holga photos I took along the way. ![]() *Massive piles of snow in town in Mammoth. ![]() *The Grand Prix at Mammoth ![]() *Kimmy Fasani and I on the deck at Mammoth ![]() *The Halfpipe during the Grand Prix ![]() *Building a BC jump with Gabe Taylor and Chris Benchetler |
