A five-time competitor and one-time bronze medalist in Winter X (Slopestyle, 2001), Marni has been on the roster for Slopestyle, Snowboarder X, SuperPipe and Skier X in her WXG career. She chose not to pursue an SBX slot for '05 Winter X, but has returned to the field excited to vie for gold in 2006. She In between training with the US Snowboard B Team for the first time, teaching standard and prenatal yoga, and doing fundraising for Northwest for Breast, a breast-cancer awareness charity benefiting Seattle's Fred Hutcheson Cancer Research Center, Marni is acting as head coach and program director for the first freeride team at Stevens Pass, WA.
Although she grew up ski racing, at 19 Marni traded in her skis for a board and has gone on to take top five finishes in every possible snowboard discipline (GS, slalom, boardercross, halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air). Presently a yoga teacher, Marni hopes to apply her mental and physical strength to the WX '04 Slopestyle course.
Marni Yamada took home Slopestyle bronze in 2001 -- her best WX finish to date. She also ended the 2001 season ranked 4th in boardercross in the World. She graduated from college in 2000 and is pursuing a career teaching yoga.
