About
One of the most talented men in snocross, Island is coming off a disappointing season during which he admits allowing a negative attitude to affect his performance. Slight but strong, Island has a high risk/reward riding style that leads to good finishes as well as epic crashes. The '04 WX SNX champ has 3 career National wins but is off to a bad start in '05/'06.
Now one of the undisputed top drivers in snocross, the defending SNX gold medalist has 3 Nat'l wins (2 in '04) and 11 Nat'l podiums (6 in '04) over the last two seasons. A go-for-broke, high risk/reward riding style leads to both strong finishes and big crashes. Slight but strong, has a gift for holding onto his Mod sled on rough tracks. Confidently predicted his WX '04 win after the 1st practice.
Besides finishing just off the podium at WX '03 in 4th place, Island was 5th in WSA Pro Open points and 6th in Stock. The 22-year old had 5 Nat'l podiums in '03 (just behind Morgan and Hibbert). That, along with 5 more podiums on the Indoor series, earned him his first Snow Week Top 10 Racers of the Year mention.
Island burst onto the WSA scene at the Duluth National in Dec. 2001. First, he finished 8th in the Winter X qualifier (the last transfer spot at Duluth), then he made both Pro finals. He took 7th in Pro Stock and shocked everyone with a 3rd in Pro Open.
