  • Biography

Rookie Bourez, nicknamed Spartan after his breathtaking powerful surfing, is the second Tahitian ever to qualify for the prestigious ASP World Tour more than a decade after Vetea David retired from full-time competition. At 23 years of age, the French Polynesian standout ended 2008 with a win at the coveted ASP WQS 6-Star Prime Reef Hawaiian Pro in pumping Haleiwa, a very promising indication of his potential success during his Dream Tour campaign. ASP European Pro Junior No. 4 at 18 years and ASP European Champion in 2006, Bourez finished his glorious ASP WQS run ranked No. 2 and is expected to throw buckets of water when he takes off on the ASP World Tour's world class waves in 2009.

Raised on the shallow Tahitian reefs, the tube-riding expert and new school soldier can beat anyone on tour as he showed in the Quiksilver Pro France last year where he defeated Dream Tour big guns Joel Parkinson and Bede Durbidge (as a wildcard) with the best scores of the event. Bourez will be an exceptional weapon for the European crew in 2009, his eternal positive approach and determination making him one of the most respected upcoming surfers among the ASP Top 45. Many see him as a serious ASP World Title contender when he finds his cruising speed on the world's best waves. He might start with an ASP Rookie of the Year award before anything.
