Slowly gaining fame through magazines and word of mouth (probably Fuzzy's mouth), his style and fluidity in his riding became very popular in the BMX community. He gained the sponsorship of Fit Bike Co and released a series of signature frames still running to this day. He is not the type of rider to do what everybody else is doing and it always shows in his riding. In 2006 at the X Games, on the last jump, he did a 180 lookback meaning he had to land backwards off this big dirt jump. He landed it and pulled the backwards rollaway, earning him sixth place. He only got sixth because the riders above him are doing double backflips and frontflips and 720s and stuff. Still, amazing. He took third place at a dew tour contest, in his hometown, as he styled his way into the podium. That was in 2007 and was quite a touching moment seeing him with the bronze in his hometown, beating the guys doing wild backflips and 360 variations. These happy feelings, however, would be stunted late in 2008 when Mike Aitken took a bad crash on his head without a helmet. He woke up out of a coma in the hospital in poor condition. He has worked his way back, however, and with the support of the BMX community and his sponsors has even been seen riding his bicycle outside of his house recently. Aitken has a wife and a kid and knowing that he will live on to watch his son grow old and ride bikes and such is such a heart warmer. Keep up to date with his condition through his website above.
