Hampered by various injuries over the past couple of years, Metz grabbed the spotlight in May '06 when he threw a 125-ft backflip over the fountains at Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas. One of the most famous names in action sports, Metz has had a greater impact on freestyle motocross than probably anyone. He has been a chief pioneer, innovator and creative force -- his 3 gold and 2 silver XG/WXG medals attest to that. The Godfather's back-to-back backflips at XG '02 are a legendary image. However, he's barely competed in freestyle due to injury and a lack of interest since XG '04. One of the most famous names in actions sports, Metz has had more of an impact on freestyle motocross than probably anyone and has been a chief pioneer, innovator and creative force. However, he's done little freestyle in the past several months. His back-to-back backflip at XG '02 is a legendary image. Became one of the most famous people in action sports when he threw back-to-back backflips at XG 2002, and he went on to win gold at WX 2003. He then announced his retirement from freestyle competitions until other riders were willing to step up to his level. Unable to keep himself away from XG '03, he decided to compete, only to crash hard a week before the event at the Disney Xperience. Pulling out of XG, he stopped jumping and focused on the AMA/Red Bull Supermoto series, where he finished 7th in overall points. After initially declining his WX 04 invite, he changed his mind on Jan. 19 after Chuck Carothers was forced to drop due to injury. Called the Godfather for his work pioneering the sport of freestyle motocross, Mike Metzger lives a constantly changing lifestyle. mike was my sons birthday yesterday saw you at the dew tour in slc you have ben his hero for years so glad you took the time out to sign his vip card and am in your debt am a mechanic for 20 years and into the sport we race togeather and is fun brings us closer am so proud of him and am so respestful of you am a fan to and so much aprectiate that you would take the time you are king and always will be
