After spending more than a decade competing on the WTC and winning the U.S. Pro tour in '91, Parsons is considered the "thinking man's surfer". A calculated risk taker, Parsons won the Billabong XXL Big Wave Award in 2001 after catching a 66-foot-break off the coast of San Diego at the Cortez Bank. Not only did Parsons' claim a record pitch, but he also took home surfing's highest purse, $66,000. "Mike also participates in Surfercross events, which include doubles competition in surfing and motocross. In early August 2003, Parsons and his partner James Stewart took first place at the 5th annual Fox Surfercross. Mike's future goals in surfing is to catch a 100-foot wave, and live to tell about it.
