  • Lavese Los Manos - Chapter 1

Your good friends over at Analog have done something incredible, folks. They've captured Nathan Fletcher. I don't mean 'captured' in the 'episode of COPS' sense, but the other way. The 'on film' way. Im actually not sure which method of capture would be harder, when you're talking about Nate Fletcher. He's an elusive dude, to say the least. It must have been a nightmare to track him down and film his Hunter S. Thompson-esque surf adventures. I'd imagine that a tiger trap would be your best bet for successful capture. You know, dig a large pit, cover it in leaves, and wait for prey to fall in. Speaking from experience, camouflaging the trap is argueably the most important element of the plan, especially when you just dug a hole in Megan Fox's front lawn. Dead leaves work well, but be creative and use your surroundings. The second most important element is the bait. Once again speaking from experience, the odds of this person/wild animal just happening to walk into your carefully laid trap are usually quite slim. Bait is a good idea, unless you have a couple days to kill, and really enjoy sitting in trees. A torn up restraining order soaked in tears seems to make the best bait, in my experiences. Which brings me to my next... wait.... uhh.. what are we talking about again? Oh yeah. The Analog movie. The movie is so f*cking sick. It opens with Nate getting clipped at backdoor, then taking a bomber set on the head. Having grown up in Hawaii, i can honestly say i've never been more terrified while surfing, than getting caught inside at backdoor. Its so shallow, there's no channel, bombs from OTW double up and just rape the hell out of you. I'd rather call Kala a sissy, to his face, than get cleaned out at backdoor again. Actually, nevermind, i take that back. Anywhooo, there are some crazy punts and gaping pits that you'd expect from Nate, and its all shot and edited together very well. The music is dope. In fact, just watch it. Here's chapter 1. More to come...

  • Nate Break

    Nate Break
In some unfortunate news, my friend, Nate Fletcher, broke his femur at Pipe yesterday morning.-- The weird part is he did it doing a cutback.-- The waves were 4 to 6 ft. and Uncle Eddie decided not to run the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout, so everyone was out free surfing.-- Apparently, Nate got a fun one, pulled in, got spit out, and threw down a ridiculously high speed cutback, and when he banked of the whitewater. Snap!-- It was the crack heard around the world. --See, quads go fast!

Dave Wassel said he heard the bone break from the beach, and Ryan Hackman said he heard it from the Quiksilver house.-- Fuck, that's gnarly.-- Dave and Myles Padaca pulled Nate out of the water and onto the beach where the lifeguards were waiting.-- He was taken to Wahiawa Hospital, and had surgery today at Queens Memorial Hospital in Honolulu. --Turns out, he has two fractures of the femur, and metal rods were inserted into his leg during surgery. --

Nate has always been the future of surfing.-- The guy was riding quads years before the fad, and I've always looked to him to see what's next.-- Let's hope what's next is some more ripping from Nate.-- Make a speedy recovery buddy!-- The photo above I took, the photo below is from Surfline taken by Sean Davey.

    One Nice Photo
Nate's leg wasn't the only thing to break yesterday, my phone did too, leaving me with no numbers. There's a lot of things I can't remember, but the things I may be the worst at remembering are numbers. I dunno, I just don't think like that, you know. I think it has something to do with that right brain/left brain thing. I don't know what side I think with, but it's definitely the side that doesn't like numbers.

Well anyway, since I have no numbers I decided to rummage through the Analog site to get an update on Nate. While I was there I stumbled upon this photo, which I like because of obvious reasons. Kamalei walks on the beach very well, duh.
