Brown Defends His Big Air Title

X Games Skateboard Big Air wrapped up Thursday night at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, CA with the name Jake Brown once again at the top of the leader board. Brown had stiff competition from Bob Burnquist and Rob Lorifice, but was able to edge them out with a backflip on the first hit, and an Indy 540 that measured 21' 8" on the quarter pipe.

Getting in on the ground floor of Big Air, Rob has already become a top contender, finishing 5th at X Games in 2005 in his first Big Air competition and at the Mexico City Xtreme Speed mega ramp contest in April '06, Rob landed the first ever frontside 360 kickflip indy over the 50-ft gap. Rob graduated from high school in June 2006 and is completely focused on skating, including learning a frontside 720 over the gap on the Big Air ramp.

The 17-year-old just turned pro in 2004, and he's already in the vert mix, placing 10th at Gravity Games (2004) and 5th at the Tampa Pro (2005). He's been skating vert with Shaun White for four years and he started hitting the Mega Ramp hard when he was just 15. This California boy likes hanging out on the beach, but on the vert ramp, he's a technical skater who loves to land 540s.
