He led the American sweep of the medal stand at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City with his gold medal performance in the halfpipe. Four years earlier he earned the bronze medal at the 1998 Games in Nagano. Powers is one of only two athletes to have competed at every Winter X Games. Over the course of the past 12 years, he's won nearly every title in the sport, including the U.S. Open ('98, '03), Goodwill Games ('00), U.S. Grand Prix Finals ('99), Vans Triple Crown Overall Title ('00), the Winter X Games ('98) and the Winter Olympics (gold '02). Though most of his early success came in the halfpipe, he's been battling a new generation of stars in snowboardcross. In early 2010, he narrowly missed making the U.S. snowboarding Olympic team in the exciting discipline. Powers will be lending his authoritative voice to the snowboarding coverage in Vancouver.
