| Description: | Roy Powers is from the fertile surfing grounds of Hanalei, Kauai. He grew up with the most talented crop of surfers in the last ten years. This has had an enormous influence on his performance and wave knowledge that others may not get living anywhere else. Roy's maiden year on the 2006 WCT did not go as planned but there where successes that occurred and lessons that will undoubtledly make him a better competitor. He beat Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, Taylor Knox, and a host of top WCT surfers. He placed 5th in the Quiksilver Lacanau WCT event. He got nines at the Pipe Masters and pulled into a huge 10' cavernous backdoor beast that had the crowd concerned for his safety.He shined in that event. He was only one strong result from requalifing. His highlight was 2nd at the US Open and in total he had a good year. So far in 2007 he is sitting in a good position to qualify for the WCT and he is in the top 20 on the WQS while counting a zero out of his eight results. He has three quarter finals and one semi final in WQS 6 stars which gives him over 7,500 WQS points and the tour is just approaching the halfway point.Roys's surfing is fast and loose and his fluid style makes his surfing look effortless. He is radical in every way from technical aerials to rock’n’roll floaters to long driving barrels; yet it’s all done with grace.
